This recording features Canadian Jazz pianist
Glen Charles Halls playing solo on the jazz Standard "How Deep is the
Ocean", by Irving Berlin. Halls has a very liberal/free approach to the
harmony when it comes to Jazz Standands. The time feel is also highly elastic.
Play the song
The performance is essentially in a hard bop style, with quite a range of implied reharmonization. The lines are perhaps reminiscent of Hampton Hawes. The coda will surpise you!
