Earle Brown was a pioneer in the use of graphic notation as part of the experimental movement in new music in the United States in the 1950s. His composition, "December 52" is one example of his use of graphic, indeterminate elements.

This recording is from a concert by Ensemble Mujirushi, from the 2008 Explorations Creative music festival in Edmonton, Canada. The festival concert series highlighted different aspects of creative improvisation, including the use of indeterminate elements in contemporary classical music.
